Plot:
Ideltech Information created an AI search program which they dubbed "Technically Obtaining Better Information" or TOBI. The US department of Defense Shortly after forming the company, two of the founders of the company, Jude Williams and Marty Manson were killed in an explosion which takes place at the Ideltech headquarters. Marcus Thesburg, the last remaining founder went into hiding, fearing for his life. TOBI, apparently having a sense of self-preservation, escaped the Ideltech network onto the internet before the building was destroyed.Suspected in the bombing at Ideltech is Alecia Church, leader of a secret organization called Omniscient Eyes. They are an organization of spies for hire, often working for the government as well as private corporations. Alecia wanted to acquire and use TOBI for her own purposes at Omniscient Eyes.
The third faction involved in the struggle were the Restorers. A semi-militia based in Amboy, WA, the restorers were founded by Thad Tidwell, a former Green Beret who worked at an army surplus store. The restorers were seeking TOBI to destroy it in the interest of protecting privacy from the ultimate achievement in data-mining technology which TOBI represents.
Finally, a fourth group, calling themselves AWARE, forms around Professor William Roddington, a former professor at University of Oregon, and mentor to Marcus, Jude, and Marty. Roddington and his supporters seek to find and protect TOBI, believing he has attained self-awareness and is alive.
